After the successful premiere of the " Passion for Homeland" event, organized by NSA of the University of Greenwich in March 2010, the University of East London, London South Bank University and the University of Greenwich Students’ Union presidents, in collaboration with Reuben P. Joseph  proudly present the event titled,


'THE FUSION OF AFRICA AND THE CARIBBEAN'
The Event will place on Saturday the 26th of June 2010, at the Indigo o2 Arena, North Greenwich London.

This event is all about promoting and celebrating the various African and Caribbean cultures, food, fashion, arts, lifestyle and traditions. It is also about providing a platform where upcoming entrepreneurs and achievers of African descent, in the UK and Europe, can exhibit their works and businesses.

POTM is an endeavour to bring together Africans and Caribbean’s from all cultures, and all people of African descent, in celebration and appreciation of the beauty of the Motherland. We want to encourage and support positive exchanges among all black communities outside of the ancestral continent, through this vibrant event.

CHARITY
Part of the proceeds from this event will go to the:

African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust’ (ACLT), an organization focused on raising awareness and supporting people of black and mixed parentage, suffering from Leukaemia and all other blood related cancer. Please visit their website at: http://www.actl.org

’Women’s Health Education and Development’ (WHED), an organization that creates awareness to the general public, especially people with risky behaviour about HIV/AIDS prevention and control. WHED aims to improve the reproductive health of deprived and marginalized women and raise their awareness on the benefits of Family Planning.  A campaign will be done where a live spokesperson will give a talk on these issues. A raffle will be drawn, donations collected, including an auction to raise funds as part of the evening’s program.

XLP is a charity that has an emphasis on being faith-based, but not faith-biased: XLP works equally with young people of all faiths and none. Those who work at XLP share a common passion: to serve the community by meeting the social, educational and behavioural needs of young people, and empowering them to make wise lifestyle choices and to realise their potential. Over the years XLP has grown from working in a single school to operating in over 30 schools and communities across Southwark, Lewisham, Greenwich, Bexley, Tower Hamlets and Newham. www.xlp.org.uk

MAIN ATTRACTIONS

On entering into the Indigo 02, you will be swept away by our presentation of the “African Village” where the themes ‘’Tribal Fantasy” and “D Village Market” take the spotlight, with African paintings and sculptures, traditional attires and fabrics of the various tribes of Africa on display: celebrating the history of the people, the Motherland Fashion, from casual to formal, accessories, & the African/Caribbean Cuisine.


The “Spirit of the Caribbean” highlights the River, it flows with its rich essence of culture, the people gather at the banks of the river, and dance to the sweet sound of music from the Caribbean, Reggae, Calypso and Soca, Zouk, Steel Pan, Parang, Chutney, and the pulsating Tassa Drums. On the main stage, “Cry of the Drums” holds the spotlight where live drummers and energetic dancers will capture the magnificent audience, together with live Artists, performing music from both cultures. The backdrop of an Exotic Waterfall, in ‘’Elements of Life,” Earth, Wind, Water Fire, and a theatrical fashion show presentation will be the main highlight. As well as twelve designers, a cast of thirty cosmopolitan models and energetic dancers.


 The main event will also feature performances such as, cultural dances of Afro-Caribbean heritage, Comedians, Gospel Singers, Artists, Poetry, Drama, Fashion Show, Afro-Caribbean traditional cuisine, etc... And more fun presentations for the children.

This is the fusion of Africa and the Caribbean in one spectacular theatrical event, which will capture the beauty and excitement of both worlds through Art, Music and Fashion, at one of London’s top state of the art venues,
